Frostburg State completed its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule by taking two games from Lake Erie, 17-4 and 5-3, Wednesday afternoon.
The Bobcats (23-8-1, 9-3 AMCC), who pushed their winning streak to seven games, blasted four home runs in the opener and added a game-winning solo shot in the nightcap.
In the first game, junior Taylor Dixon (Robinson/Fairfax, Va.) slammed a three-run homer to deep left to highlight a seven-run second inning. It was Dixon's sixth round-tripper of the season and fourth in AMCC play.
The Bobcats tacked on three more runs in the third to open a 12-1 lead before senior Tim Wilkins (Mervo/Baltimore, Md.) hit a two-run line-drive shot in the fourth.
Senior Mark Teson (Shaker/Latham, N.Y.) then led off the fifth with a solo home run and junior Sean Davis (Sherwood/Olney, Md.) followed with a solo shot of his own for FSU's first back-to-back homers of the season.
Senior John Koppel (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) went five strong innings allowing no earned runs, scattering three hits and striking out six for his first win of the season.
In the second game, junior Charles Jackson (Chesapeake/Baltimore, Md.) snapped a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth with his first home run as a Bobcat to lift FSU to the come-from-behind win.
The Bobcats trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the fourth before rallying.
FSU closed to within one in the bottom of the inning when Jackson doubled with two outs and scored on a double by senior Dave Sanchez (Urbana/Monrovia, Md.).
The Bobcats then pulled even in the fifth when Davis led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Scott Feller (American Heritage/Coral Springs, Fla..
Jackson put FSU ahead for good with one out in the sixth when he sent an 0-2 pitch over the left field wall.
The Bobcats added another run in the inning on an RBI-single by Davis and then turned the ball over to sophomore Drew Byer (Osbourn Park/Manassas, Va.), who pitched the seventh to earn his first save of the season.
The Bobcats fell behind in the third, as freshman starter Marc Crawford (Middletown/Middletown, Md.) was chased from the game after giving up two runs on three hits.
Junior Brent Lutz (Central/Toms Brook, Va.) came in to relieve Crawford and went three innings while giving up only one run to earn the win.
The Bobcats improved to 23-8-1 overall and 9-3 in the AMCC and still has a chance to host the conference tournament. Penn State Behrend sits atop the AMCC with a 7-2 mark with three games remaining. The Bobcats have clinched at least the No. 2 seed and can move into first if Behrend losses two of its last three league contests.
The Bobcats return to action this weekend as they will travel to New York to play in the Old Westbury Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
