FROSTBURG, Md. —
The Frostburg State baseball team ranks among the national leaders in the recent NCAA Division III statistics released Wednesday.
As of games played through Sunday, April 24, the Bobcats were ninth in the nation with a .363 team batting average and 20th in the country with 8.9 runs scored per game.
In the individual rankings, junior lefthander Billye Hollister (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) was eighth in the nation with a 1.17 earned run average, having allowed just seven earned runs in 54 innings pitched, and sophomore shortstop Mike Gitzen (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) was 12th with 0.53 doubles per game, lacing 16 two-base hits in 30 contests.
Frostburg State, which is currently 23-10 overall and 15-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, returns to action Thursday when it visits Washington & Jefferson for a nine-inning non-conference game beginning at 6 pm.
