The Frostburg State baseball team split four games this weekend as they dropped a doubleheader to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford 14-2, 11-0. They rebounded to sweep a doubleheader against Mt. Aloysius 14-2 and 11-0.
Against Mt. Aloysius (3-16-1) the Bobcats jumped all over the Mounties outscoring them 25-2 on the day and have now outscored them 88-10 over their previous seven games over the past two seasons.
In the first game, the Bobcats had a strong pitching performance from junior Brad Cannon (Colonel Richardson/Federalsburg, Md.) who went six innings allowing only one earned run on six hits. He struck out four in his first victory on the season and first career victory as a Bobcat.
In the second game, junior Daryl Keys (Salem Central/Salem, N.Y.) went all five innings for the shutout victory. Keys gave up only two hits, struck out seven while walking only one for his first win of the season.
At the plate, sophomore Kyle Mahan (Potomac/Woodbridge, Va.) continued to dominate as he went 2-3 with three runs scored, a stolen base. In the second game, Mahan again went 2-3 with three runs scored.
Also on the afternoon senior Kevin Romanik (Millville/Millville, N.J.) went 4-6 with four runs scored, six RBI, and a stolen base. Senior Ryan Hamerski (Sherwood/Olney, Md.) went 4-8 with two runs scored and six RBI, while senior Justin Wilt (Brunswick/Brunswick, Md.) went 5-7 with a run scored and two RBI.
Against Bradford the Bobcats fell behind in the first inning in both games and could not gain a lead throughout the doubleheader. FSU managed only one run on six hits in the two games.
Senior Chris Baugher (Brunswick/Frederick, Md.) was the only Bobcat to get a hit in both games as he earned half of the teams hits against Bradford. He went 3-5 but was unable to score a run or earn a RBI. He also reached on a walk.
On the mound the Bobcats struggled as senior Brent Lutz (Central/Toms Brook, Va.) started game one going two and two-thirds innings allowing five runs and in game two senior Dan Sidorowicz (St. Mary's Ryken/Leonardtown, Md.) went all six innings giving up four runs, striking out six as the Bobcats could not provide any run support.
