Baseball “Team to Watch” According to D3BASEBALL.COM
02/28/2007

FROSTBURG, Md. — The 2007 Frostburg State baseball team has been labeled as a team to watch by d3baseball.com, Tuesday.

FSU finished the 2006 season with a 29-13 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament for just the first time since 1987. The Bobcats finished 2-2 in the regional with wins over Montclair State (6-2) and Gwynedd-Mercy (3-2) while juniors Allen Peake (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) and Andrew Speights (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) were named to the All-Regional Tournament Team.

This season the Bobcats return three All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference selections from last year’s team that captured the first conference title since 2004.

Peake, who was a second-team All-AMCC selection last spring, will anchor the Bobcat infield in 2007. He led team last spring with seven homeruns and 29 RBIs.

Senior Art Barone (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Spring Valley) was a second-team honoree last year after leading the Bobcats with 15 doubles and a .548 slugging percentage while hitting .356 with 37 hits and 13 RBIs.

Junior pitcher John Micklus (La Plata, Md./McDonough) was an honorable mention all-conference selection last season. He posted a 7-3 record with two saves and a 2.32 earned run average. Micklus struckout 74 batters while allowing just 57 hits in 68.1 innings pitched.

The Bobcats are 3-4 overall this season and travel to the Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen, Va. this weekend to take on Old Westbury for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
