The Frostburg State men's swimming and diving team continued its impressive season by sweeping both Penn State Behrend, 81-18, and host Washington & Jefferson, 59-53, Wednesday night at the Henry Memorial Center.
In women's action, the Bobcats earned a split, defeating Penn State Behrend, 78-18, and falling to W&J, 65-38. The FSU men improved to 9-1 on the year, while the Bobcat women are 3-7.
Junior Kelly Ryan, who tied a varsity record with a 58.04 leadoff split to pace the Bobcats to victory in the 400-yard medley relay. Ryan later set a school record in the 200-yard backstroke, winning the event in 2:00.71.
Freshman John Mayden picked up a pair of wins, capturing both the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:42.6) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.04). Junior Jay Garner also won twice, turning in a 1:51.67 in the 200-yard freestyle and a 5:03.77 in the 500-yard freestyle.
The Bobcat women were victorious in 10 of 14 events versus Penn State Behrend to come away with the convincing win. Sophomore Jessie Bley earn wins in both the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyles (12:06.92 and 5:59.31, respectively), while Lauren Crystal (50- and 100-yard freestyles) and Cindy Reese (1- and 3-meter diving) also turned in two first-place finishes.
Crystal won both the 50- and 100-yard freestyles against Washington & Jefferson, and Bley captured the 1,000-yard freestyle to account for FSU's three victories.
The Frostburg State women will host the College of Notre Dame (Md.) on Saturday at Bobcat Natatorium beginning at 1:00 p.m.
