Bobcats Down La Roche in Double OT to Advance to AMCC Title Contest
10/27/2000

Erie, Pa. ... Freshman Jessica Linkins scored on a penalty kick with 7:36 left in the second overtime to give Frostburg State a 3-2 victory over La Roche in the semifinals of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament Friday afternoon. The Bobcats will face host Penn State Behrend in Saturday's championship game at 2:00 p.m.

The Bobcats (11-6) and Lions will meet for the conference title for the third time in the AMCC's four-year history. Penn State Behrend, which advanced to the finals with an 8-2 win over Pitt-Bradford earlier Friday, has won all three previous championships.

Frostburg State got on the board first when junior Amy Foote (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) found the net just 42 seconds into the match on an assist from Linkins.

After the Redhawks tied the game with 19:24 left in the first half, Bobcat freshman Jamie Clark (Barton, Md./Westmar) scored off a feed from senior Brooke Middleton (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) with 13:00 to go in the half to give FSU a 2-1 lead.

La Roche again forged a tie with 25:25 left in regulation, and the two teams battled through a scoreless first overtime before Linkins ended the contest with her 11th goal of the season.

Bobcat senior Jessica Richardson (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) made a pair of first-half saves, while freshman Stephanie Zych (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland) played the remainder of the contest and recorded two stops as well.

La Roche keeper Carrie Doughty kept the Redhawks in the game with 24 saves as the Bobcats held an enormous 38-6 advantage in shots.

"I thought we dominated the game, but Doughty played absolutely phenomenal," said FSU head coach Carrie Lysik, whose team has played four straight overtime games, including back-to-back double overtime contests. "Saturday's game with Behrend is going to be a very good match."
