Bobcats Fall to Nazareth in First Round of ECAC Tournament

Rochester, N.Y. ... Nazareth junior Allison Roberts scored six goals and handed out four assists to lead the Golden Flyers to a 15-11 victory over Frostburg State in the first round of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament Wednesday afternoon.

The Bobcats, who finished the season with an 8-6 overall record, jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 18 seconds into the game on a goal by senior Darla Burns, but Nazareth scored the next three goals, including two by Roberts, to take a 3-1 advantage.

The Golden Flyers built a 5-3 edge at the 18:24 mark before Frostburg State scored four straight times to storm ahead, 7-5.

Burns scored the second of her three goals with 13:53 remaining in the half and assisted on senior Annie Macey's tally just over two minutes later that pulled the Bobcats even.

Senior Heather Brown then found the net at the 9:55 mark to give FSU a 6-5 lead before dishing out an assist on sophomore Andrea Duffy's goal at the 8:31 mark.

Nazareth (12-7) forged another tie with back-to-back goals by Jackie Lombard and Sue Hollister before Brown put the Bobcats back in front, 8-7, with another goal with 5:28 left in the opening half.

Shawna Kabot's goal just 1:20 before halftime sent the teams to the intermission tied, 8-8.

Frostburg State took a 9-8 edge just 1:24 into the second half on another Brown goal, but Nazareth moved out to an 11-9 lead with three straight tallies.

Brown's fourth goal of the contest brought the Bobcats to within 11-10 with 13:27 left to play, but the Golden Flyers used another three-goal spurt to build a 14-10 advantage.

Brown notched her fifth goal with 4:08 remaining before Roberts completed the scoring with 2:59 left.

Brown led FSU with five goals and two assists, while Burns added three goals and one assist. Macey finished with two goals, while freshman Sarah Shockley made 20 saves in goal.

Nazareth advances to the semifinals and will face top-seed William Smith on Saturday at 11 a.m.
