LEWISBURG, Pa. —
Senior Brian Bonn (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie)
and freshman Desmond Wars (New Windsor, Md./Westminster)
both qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships with strong performances at the 17th Annual Bucknell Winter Classic last Saturday.
Bonn won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.07, while Wars finished second in the long jump with a mark of 6.79 meters. Wars added a 25th-place finish in the 200-meter run in 24.75.
“Brian and Desmond gave two excellent performances, and I believe both can make NCAA indoor nationals this year,” said Bobcat Head Coach Felix Moreno.
Freshman Trevor Albro (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) was also strong, finishing third in the 500-meter run in 1:09.77. He should meet the ECAC qualifying standard this Saturday when the Bobcats compete at the George Mason Invitational.
Junior Teddy Levine (Miami, Fla./Fryeburg) was eighth in the 60-meter dash (7.26) and 17th in the 200-meter dash (24.37).
Sophomore Andy Watson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) finished seventh in the one-mile run (4:28.20), while classmate Steve Jackson (Washington, Md./Roosevelt) placed eighth in the 500-meter run (1:15.05).
In the 3,000-meter run, senior Tyler Snyder (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) was eighth (9:28.78), freshman Zach Gaudette (Queenstown, Md./Kent Island) was ninth (9:31.06) and freshman Chris Negley (Frostburg, Md./Beall) was 15th (9:53.02).
Freshman Curt Ruble (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) placed 11th in the 5,000-meter run (16:11.75), while sophomore Andrew Parker (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) was 14th (16:29.70) and junior Sid Bittinger (Midland, Md./Westmar) 16th (16:44.24).
Freshman Ryan Abe (Frostburg, Md./Beall) added a 12th-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:04.03), and freshman Arien Heggs (Arlington, Va./Wakefield) was 23rd in the 200-meter dash (24.65).
The team of Bonn, Abe, Jackson and Albro was 11th in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:45.39.
Freshman Adam Jones (Homer City, Pa./United) enjoyed a solid all-around meet, finishing sixth in the shot put (13.70 meters), 11th in the triple jump (11.66) and 12th in the long jump (5.72).
Junior Jonas Horst (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) was 15th in the long jump (5.48).
On the women's side, the Bobcats turned in five top-10 finishes.
Sophomore Bonnie Axman (Burke, Va./Robinson) led the way by placing fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 10:50.64, setting a personal record in the event for the second straight week. She should qualify for the ECAC Championships this weekend.
Senior Lynnea Finch (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) was strong in the 500-meter dash, finishing eighth in 1:24.37, while junior Chelsea Lewis (Hagerstown, Md./Pike) finished ninth in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 27.16. Both runners should meet the respective ECAC standards this Saturday.
Freshman Katie Lyell (Newark, Del./Newark) finished ninth in the 5,000-meter run in a personal-best 20:20.49, while junior Jenn Waskiewicz (Taneytown, Md./Union Bridge) was eighth in the shot put (personal-record 10.61 meters) and 14th in the weight throw (12.10 meters).
Freshman Bekah Rauch (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) finished 12th in the pole vault (2.80 meters) and freshman Stephanie Potter (Ellicott City, Md./Seton Keough) placed 15th in the long jump (4.07 meters).
Bobcat assistant coach Maria Ferguson won both the 60-meter (7.66) and 400-meter (58.30) dashes.
“Across the board, both teams ran exceptionally well and I am pleased with their performances,” said Moreno.
