DELAWARE, OHIO —
Frostburg State junior Bonnie Axman (Burke, Va./James Robinson)
was named an All-American cross country runner in the NCAA Division III National Championship meet Saturday.
Over 200 runners competed and the top 35 finishers were named All-American athletes.
Despite sustaining an injury in early October and missing five weeks of practice, Axman finished 21st overall with a time of 22:47 in the 6,000 meter course. A Bobcat has not received this honor since Karen Carpenter in 1997.
Axman was also the first to complete the muddy and challenging course from the Mid-East Region.
“I’m really happy for Bonnie. Not only because she made All-American, but she did so while overcoming difficult circumstances including injury,” said Head Coach Randy Lowe. “She represents Frostburg State University so well and I’m sure that there will be more national meets in her future.”
