BETHANY, WV — Junior Pierre Bowery (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and senior Sean Brown (Baltimore, Md./North County) added 22 points and four assists to lead Frostburg State to an 89-80 win over host Bethany (W.Va.) The Bobcats (3-3) used hot shooting and solid defense to build a 49-35 halftime lead.

FSU opened a 21-11 advantage near the midway point of the first half before Bethany closed to within three, 32-29, with just over six minutes left.

However, the Bobcats closed out the period with a 17-6 run to take a 14-point advantage at the break.

FSU hit a scorching 54.5 percent (18-of-33) from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including 6-of-11 from three-point range, while the Bison shot just 33.3 percent (11-of-33) from the floor and committed 12 turnovers.

The Bobcats continued their tear in the second stanza, sinking 12-of-23 shots (52.2 percent) and holding a 12- to 15-point lead for most of the final half.

Bethany (6-2) made a late charge, pulling to within five with 31 seconds to play, but junior A.J. Ernst (Minster, Ohio/Minster) and Brown combined to go 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final moments to seal the victory.

The Bobcats, who entered the game shooting 64.1 percent from the charity stripe, made a season-high 78.6 percent (22-of-28) from the line, including 15-of-18 in the second half.

Ernst hit double-digit scoring figures for the third straight game, finishing with 12 points, while senior Elroy Henley (Owings Mills, Md./Randallstown) added a season-high 12 points and 8 rebounds.
