GIBSONIA, PA —
Frostburg State sophomore Trish Brown (Manchester, Md./North Carroll)
and senior Andria Cook (Cresaptown, Md./Allegany)
have been named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week.
This is the first time FSU players have swept both awards since the conference began selecting a Player and Pitcher of the Week in the 2003 season. The AMCC previously awarded only a Player of the Week.
Brown helped lead the Bobcats to a 6-2 week at the Snowbird Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., hitting .364 (8-for-22) with six RBI and six runs scored. She doubled, homered and walked three times.
Brown currently leads FSU in batting average (.400), hits (20), runs (12), home runs (2), RBI (14), slugging percentage (.600) and on-base percentage (.464).
"Trish has been one of our top hitters early in the season and will continue to be a threat the rest of the year," said Bobcat head coach Chris Starke. "The scary thing is I don't think she's found her groove yet, and when she does, she's going to be even more fun to watch."
Cook went 3-1 with a 2.19 ERA to pick up her second straight AMCC Pitcher of the Week honor.
She tossed just the second perfect game in school history in a 20-0 win over Wells and struck out six while walking just one in a 4-1 win over Felician. She finished the week with 19 strikeouts and only two walks.
Cook is currently 6-3 with a 1.28 ERA. In 65.2 innings, she has allowed just 12 earned runs and has 32 strikeouts against only five walks.
"Andria continues to throw extremely well and has been very impressive with eight complete games already," said Starke. "She is well on her way to a great year."
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow when they host Hartwick (N.Y.) in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm.
