BTGLASS at FSU Hosts Transgender Performers
10/28/2010

Transgender Awareness Month will begin with two events hosted by the Frostburg State University student organization, Breaking Through GLASS (Bisexuals, Transgenders, Gays, Lesbians, and Straight Supporters), on Monday, Nov. 1.

The first event will be a “Trans 101” workshop from 2 to 3 p.m. in Tawes Hall room 208 on the FSU campus. This workshop, presented by transgender artists and activists Katastrophe and Athens Boys Choir, will impart all the basic information someone would need to understand trans identity. A portion of the workshop will be dedicated to vocabulary, terminology and questions that should and should not be asked. Also, there will be time for personal stories and an extensive Q&A session.

Later that evening there will be a spoken word and hip-hop performance featuring Athens Boys Choir and Katastrophe at the Lyric Theater on Main Street, Frostburg. Doors will open at 7 with the show starting at 7:30. There will also be a free pizza party prior to the show at Giannis sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program.

Both of these events are free and are open to the public.

For more information on the event, contact Dr. Julie Hartman, BTGLASS adviser, at jehartman@frostburg.edu or 301-687-3198. For more information about F to eMbody and to check out music videos from Katastrophe and Athens Boys Choir, visit www.ftoembody.com.
