Cambridge American Stage Tour to Present Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” at FSU
08/31/2011

Frostburg State University’s Department of English will host the Cambridge American Stage Tour presentation of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” on Monday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center’s Pealer Recital Hall.

“Macbeth” tells the story of Macbeth, a Scottish lord, who, encouraged by his wife, commits greater and greater crimes to fill his lust for power. “Shakespeare translates brilliantly to a contemporary setting and, in ‘Macbeth,’ he gives us one of the first great portraits of dictatorship,” says director John Haidar. “So, what we’re hoping to create in this new production is a definitively modern, almost alien landscape, while at the same time remaining true to the spirit of the drama.”

Founded in 2000 and directed and produced entirely by members of the Cambridge University student body, CAST is performing in 10 venues across the U.S. Notably, this year’s tour features a number of actors with professional credits to their name, including Charlotte Hamblin, who recently worked with director Tom Hooper on the film “The King’s Speech.”

Ticket prices are $6 for students and $12 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night of the performance or by calling 301-687-4221. For CAST information, visit www.castonline.org.

This event is sponsored by the FSU Department of English, with support from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Office of the Provost and the FSU Foundation, Inc.
