CANCELLED: FSU Celebrates Black History Month With Presentation by Joel A. Freeman
02/16/2010

In celebration of Black History Month, Frostburg State University’s Black Student Alliance has invited accomplished author Dr. Joel A. Freeman of the Freeman Institute of Black History, who will speak on “Honoring Our Legacy” Saturday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Lyric Theatre at 22 E. Main St.

Freeman will share 20 to 30 artifacts from his personal collection and explain the history and significance of each to communicate a story of creativity, inventiveness and perseverance. His presentations focus on African American ancestry while still providing awe and wonderment for people of all nationalities and ethnicities.

This event will also feature the dancers of the African Student Association. In addition, students will present monologue speeches of historical black figures.

Born in Maine and raised in a small town in Alberta, Canada, Freeman brings a rich reservoir of personal experience blended with contagious enthusiasm, clarity and down-to-earth humor to empower people from diverse walks of life. As an internationally sought-after conference speaker and workshop facilitator, he is well-informed on the topic of black history.
