- For the third straight week Frostburg State University women’s soccer swept the AMCC Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Freshman Danielle Carter (Rockville/Rockville, Md.)
, who was named 2003 AMCC Newcomer of the Year following the Bobcats third straight conference title, received Player of the Week honors, while senior Stephanie Zych (Guilderland/Slingerlands, N.Y.)
was named Goalkeeper of the Week for the fourth time this season and the eighth time in her career.
Carter (pictured), scored twice in a six-minute span in the championship game of the conference tournament, he sixth multi-goal game of the season. The second goal proved to be the game-winner as the Bobcats downed Penn State Behrend, 4-2.
Zych recorded nine saves in two conference tournament games to help FSU capture the conference title. With the weekend’s performance she improved her FSU career records to 47 wins, 424 saves and 19 shutouts and has been in goal for the Bobcats school record 11 wins in a row.
Zych and Carter have contributed to the Bobcats winning their first AMCC regular season championship, their third straight AMCC tournament title and a third straight invitation to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
FSU will host Westminster (Pa.) College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament Wednesday, November 12th at 1:00 pm.
