Chapter 6, an a-cappella vocal ensemble from Chicago, will perform in the Lane University Center's Alice R. Manicur Hall at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, as part of Frostburg State University's Parents' Weekend. This concert is free and open to the public.
Comprised of six singers and one arranger, Chapter 6 has created a medley of original arrangements from jazz to gospel, pop, rock and classical renaissance. What began as a class in 1995 became Millikin University's premiere, a-cappella ensemble. The group was discontinued in 1998; since then it has been an independent organization, directed by students.
Shortly after releasing their first CD, "A cappella 101," Chapter 6 won The Chicago Harmony Sweepstakes, becoming the youngest group to ever qualify for the National Harmony Sweepstakes. In 2001, Chapter 6 was crowned the International Collegiate A-Cappella Grand Champions at the Lincoln Center's Avery-Fisher Hall in New York City. More recently, the group competed and succeeded in winning the 2002 Chicago Harmony Sweepstakes. At the competition the group was also awarded the "Audience Favorite" caption.
