NEW YORK, N.Y. —
Sophomore David Cheeks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill)
and freshman Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest (Fl.))
turned in excellent performances against the nations top Division I competition this past Saturday at the Sixth Annual New Balance Invitational.
In the preliminaries, Cheeks best finish came in the 400-meter dash when he captured 62nd place in a personal-best time of 50.64. With that time, he qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference title meet. Cheeks was also 63rd in the 60-meter dash (7.13) and 75th in the 200-meter dash (22.96)
In the women’s prelims, Rohrs ran personal-best times and qualified for the ECAC title meet when she took home 62nd in both the 200 (26.30) and 400-meter dashes (1:00.26). She was also 50th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.27) and 75th in the 60-meter dash (8.18).
“Overall, this meet was extremely educational to both of them,” said Head Coach Felix Moreno. “They performed very well and I am very proud of them.”
The two will join the rest of the Frostburg State track and field team as it returns to action on February 11th when it travels to the Bucknell Bison Open in Lewisburg, Pa.
