Community Wellness Coalition to Host First Annual Wellfest in Cumberland, Md.
IInternational Fitness and Wellness Guru Scott Cole Headlining Festivities
In light of the recent focus on the status of health and wellness in Western Maryland, a group of health practitioners, educators and business owners have come together to organize Wellfest, a community health and wellness event to promote education and celebration of wellness resources in the area.
The first annual Wellfest will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at Cumberland’s Canal Place. Participants will be able to talk with representatives of local businesses and wellness experts and engage in fun, family-oriented activities highlighting health and wellness topics in Western Maryland.
Headlining the event is international fitness and wellness guru Scott Cole, who will host an interactive fitness presentation for all ages and fitness levels. Cole, a former National Aerobic Champion, star of “Abs of Steel” videos, creator of the top-selling “Discover Tai Chi” series and trainer to Hollywood elite, has played an active role in Frostburg State University’s student wellness initiative, CHILL (Creating Healthy Informed Lasting Lifestyles), for the past two years. A special sneak preview of Scott Cole’s Wellfest presentation will be offered at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, April 30, at the YMCA of Cumberland.
"Our community and surrounding area have rich resources for increasing Western Maryland residents’ ability to be well,” said Martha Schadt, member of the Community Wellness Coalition’s Board of Directors and massage therapist at Rehab 1st. “Wellfest will bring these resources together and provide an opportunity for people to learn more about them.”
Wellfest is sponsored by the Community Wellness Coalition, the YMCA of Cumberland, FSU and its student wellness initiative, CHILL. Originally launched in September 2008 with a contribution from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP, CHILL promotes health practices and education among college students and the local community.
