GIBSONIA, Pa. —
The Frostburg State men’s cross country team is once again the favorite to win the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title, while the Bobcat women have been picked third according to a vote by the league’s head coaches.
The FSU men have dominated the AMCC, winning eight titles in the conference’s nine-year existence. FSU will be seeking its sixth straight title this fall. Penn State Behrend, the only other team to capture a league title (2000), was picked to finish second this season, while Pitt-Greensburg was third.
PSB’s Brad Ruffo was voted this year’s Preseason Runner of the Year. Ruffo was named the Runner of the Year in 2005 after finishing first at the AMCC championship meet. He was also named the AMCC Runner of the Week three times last year.
On the women’s side, Penn State Altoona was picked to defend its title, followed by Penn State Behrend and Frostburg State.
The Preseason Runner of the Year honor was awarded to PSB’s Jenny Bailey. She was named the AMCC Newcomer of the Year last fall after finishing second at the league’s championship meet.
The Bobcats will open their season Saturday, September 2 at the Shippensburg University Alumni Open.
