FROSTBURG, Md. —
A day after earning Atlantic Central Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, Frostburg State redshirt-senior defensive end Kevin Culbert (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley)
added another award Tuesday as he was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Southwest Defensive Player of the Week.
Culbert, who missed the final seven games of 2004 with a hand injury, was impressive in his first game back on the gridiron in FSU’s 21-3 season-opening loss to Apprentice Saturday.
He had 10 tackles, including six for a loss (22 yards) and two sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Culbert and the Bobcat defense held Apprentice to just 151 total yards on 65 plays — an average of only 2.3 yards per play.
This the third ECAC weekly award of Culbert’s career. He earned similar honors twice as a junior in 2003.
The Bobcats (0-1) return to action this Saturday when they host Montclair State at 1 pm.
