COLUMBUS, OHIO —
Frostburg State junior Kevin Culbert (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley)
has been selected to the 2003 Don Hansen's Football Gazette
NCAA Division III All-American Football Team in a vote by sports information directors from across the country.
Culbert, a 6-5, 235-pound defensive end, was voted to the All-America third team after leading the Bobcats with 80 total tackles, 47 solo tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 10.0 sacks and two forced fumbles.
He added three pass breakups, a forced fumble, a blocked kick and a safety.
As of December 13, Culbert was ranked fourth in NCAA Division III with 2.4 tackles for loss per game and tied for 12th with 1.1 sacks per game.
"Kevin had an outstanding season and is certainly deserving of All-America honors," said Bobcat head coach Rubin Stevenson. "He is one of the hardest workers in our program's history and has established himself as one of the top defensive players in the country."
The award is one of many Culbert has taken home this season. He was named the Atlantic Central Football Conference (ACFC) Co-Defensive Player of the Year, earned first-team All-ACFC accolades and was voted to the Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division III All-South Region first team.
During the course of the season, Culbert was selected the ACFC Defensive Player of the Week and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Southwest Defensive Player of the Week twice and was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week once.
The Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-American Team has been selected each of the last 14 seasons. This year's squad features 77 of the nation's best players.
