Davisson Named FSU Vice President of University Advancement
B.J. Davisson, a Frostburg State University alumnus with a strong record of fund-raising, particularly for higher education, has been named Vice President of University Advancement at FSU. President Jonathan Gibralter announced the selection to the campus community on May 10.

As Vice President of University Advancement, Davisson will oversee all of the University’s fund-raising and alumni relations programs, as well as an ongoing $15 million capital campaign. Selected as the result of an extensive national search, he will begin his duties in late June.

“Mr. Davisson brings to his alma mater a solid record of success in raising funds for higher education. Increasing the financial resources available to Frostburg State University will be essential to our ability to attract and support the best students and provide programs and facilities that meet the needs of our future students and a changing world,” said FSU President Jonathan Gibralter. “I also believe that his distinguished career in advancement brings to FSU the ability to build the structure for a sustained program in alumni affairs, development and foundation relations.”

Davisson, a native of Westernport, currently works for Kaspick and Company, serving as a liaison between the non-profit organizations who are the firm’s clients and those who manage and administer the more than $4.2 billion in planned gifts for those organizations. Prior to that, Davisson’s career spans more than 20 years in higher education, most spent in the field of advancement, primarily for The Johns Hopkins Institutions and Hood College. His focus has always been in making connections between people. “Advancement work is humbling. It’s an honor to work with individuals who want to use their resources to express who they are and what they care about,” Davisson said.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to FSU. I’ve stayed connected to the institution over the years as a volunteer and a donor, but in this role I can give back to Frostburg in a more ongoing and sustainable way,” Davisson said. “I believe that the quality of the educational experience at Frostburg State University is top-notch, and worthy of philanthropic support. Exciting things are happening there, and I’m eager to be part of President Gibralter’s leadership team.”

In addition to his B.S. in sociology from FSU, Davisson earned a M.A. in Higher Education from The Ohio State University. He is married to another FSU alum, Krista McGowan Davisson, who is also a native of Westernport.

Situated in the mountains of Allegany County, Frostburg State University is one of 13 institutions in the University System of Maryland. FSU is a comprehensive, residential regional university and serves as an educational and cultural center for Western Maryland.
