Nat DeBruin of Cumberland has been named the new Acquisitions, Serials and Collection Development Librarian and Archivist for Frostburg State University's Lewis J. Ort Library.
His duties include ordering all materials for the library and coordinating with academic departments on what materials are needed to support their academics needs and organizing.
He also is responsible for preserving and maintaining the George A. Meyers Collection, which contains extensive materials related to the American Communist Party, and the William Price Collection, which contains railroad photography materials.
DeBruin's previous position was Acting Coordinator of Bibliographic Instruction, where he was responsible for coordinating all library instruction, including faculty and staff training and new employee orientation. DeBruin began his FSU career as a reference librarian, also instructing faculty and students in the use of the library's electronic and print resources.
Retired with the rank of Major from the U.S. Army, DeBruin holds a master of library science degree from University of Maryland, College Park, a degree from the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and a bachelor's degree in history from Texas A&M University. He first came to FSU as commander of the Army ROTC detachment and chairman of the former Military Science Department.
