Seven outstanding Upward Bound students recently received special recognition as Distinguished Students at the annual Awards Ceremony and Banquet hosted by Frostburg State University. This event was held at the end of Upward Bound’s summer residential program for the students, their families and guests. The 2006 Distinguished Students are: Shanise Smith; Jill Hoffman; Tiffani Williams; Patrick Steckman; Tikki Harding; Andrea MacMillan and Jodie Rose.
The Distinguished Student Award is presented annually to students who not only excel in the classroom, but also demonstrate the Upward Bound Spirit in all other areas of the program as well. The summer classroom teachers and the residential staff members nominate and evaluate the students. Students receive scores and no set number of students can achieve the award.
Distinguished Students are recognized for their friendship, cooperation, respect and support for others. They also display a positive attitude, are helpful to and considerate, and strive toward academic excellence. Upward Bound congratulates these students.
