Dr. Linda Griffin, Award-Winning Author and Educator, to Speak at FSU
Dr. Linda Griffin, a leading researcher in the way people teach and learn sport-related activities using a game-centered approach, will speak at Frostburg State University as the 2012 Lillian Wellner Scholar on Thursday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon in the main arena of the Cordts Physical Education Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Griffin has co-authored several articles and books, including “Teaching Sport Concepts and Skills: A Tactical Games Approach,” which is in the process of becoming a third edition. Griffin has conducted workshops all over the world and is the recipient of the 2005 Physical Education Teacher Education Honor Award. She served in leading roles for the National Association for Sport and Physical Education Curriculum and Instruction Academy; American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Research Consortium; and the American Educational Research Association Special Interest Group in Physical Education. Griffin is the associate dean for academic affairs and a professor in the school of education at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
The Wellner Scholar Program was created from an endowment from the FSU Foundation, Inc., to allow the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation to host a series of lectures by nationally acclaimed scholars. It was named for the late Lillian Wellner, a former FSU registrar and physical education instructor.
