FROSTBURG, MD —
Senior Kim Faust (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin)
scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and sophomore Tracey Little (La Vale, Md./Allegany)
added 20 points and a game-high 15 boards to lead Frostburg State to a 64-48 win over La Roche on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.
With their victory and Penn State Altoona's 56-46 win over Pitt-Bradford, the Bobcats likely secured the fourth seed in next week's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament and should host Pitt-Bradford in a first-round game Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
Official tournament pairings will be announced by the league Saturday evening.
Faust, who now has 1,587 career points and trails Shannon Rexrode by 74 points for third place on the FSU all-time scoring list, scored six quick points to help the Bobcats open an 11-4 lead.
La Roche eventually closed to within 21-18 with 7:12 left in the first half before using a 14-0 run to take a 32-21 lead. Little hit back-to-back baskets to end the half as the Redhawks held a 32-25 advantage at the break.
The Bobcats (11-13, 5-7 AMCC) came out strong to open the second half and pulled to within two, 32-30, on a Little jumper and a three-pointer by senior Holly Myers (York, Pa./West York).
The Redhawks pushed their lead back to six, but senior Naomi Mason (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) converted a three-point play, Little hit a short jumper and senior Christina Bleivik (Anchorage, Alaska/Bartlett) drilled her lone three-pointer of the afternoon to bring FSU even at 38.
La Roche's Lisa Henderson scored four points to put her squad back in front, 42-39, with 11:56 to play, but Faust and Little took over down the stretch.
The duo combined to score FSU's next 17 points as the Bobcats turned a three-point deficit into an 11-point advantage, 56-45, with 2:38 left.
The Redhawks (7-18, 3-9) got no closer than eight the rest of the way, and Mason sealed the victory by hitting 6-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final 1:18.
Little posted her 12th double-double of the season, including her eighth in FSU's last nine games, while Faust fell one rebound shy of her sixth double-double of the year.
Mason finished with a career-high 14 points.
Henderson had 19 points and seven rebounds for La Roche, which suffered a meltdown in the second half, hitting just 6-of-30 from the field and scoring only 16 points in the final 20 minutes.
The Bobcats will conclude their regular season on Monday when they host Washington & Jefferson at 7:30 pm.
