FROSTBURG, MD —
Frostburg State University junior Maria Ferguson (Laurel/Fairmount Heights, Md.)
ran the 100-meter dash in 12.37 seconds in Friday's qualifying heats and will advance to the finals at the NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.
Ferguson placed third in her heat, posting the sixth-fastest time of the 22 runners. She will join eight other qualifiers in the 100-meter final to be held Saturday at 3:00 pm.
"Maria ran a great race in a strong head wind," said Bobcat head coach Felix Moreno. "She looked great all the way through."
Junior Vernick Smith of Wheaton (Mass.) College turned in the top qualifying time of 12.15 seconds, while defending national champion Muffy Israel of Carthage College and Lehman sophomore Alecia Watson ran a 12.18.
