FROSTBURG, PA —
The Bobcats defeated visisting Catholic University 2-1 Saturday afternoon. At 33:15 in the second half, senior Heather Kanowicz (Leonardtown/Leonardtown, Md.)
took charge, finding the net off an assist from junior Ashley McKenney (Bohemia Manor/Chesapeake City, Md.)
Less than two minutes later, down 1-0, Rebecca Clark scored for the Cardinals and notched the count to 1-1. FSU continued to play aggressively and at 18:10 freshman Kim Smith (Thomas Johnson/Frederick, Md.) drove a shot in off an assist from senior Kim Faust (Upper Dublin/Ft.Washington, Pa.).
Both teams took many shots in the first half, but the Cardinals had seven penalty corners that kept the Bobcats on the defensive. The game turned around in the second half where each team had close opportunities, but the Bobcats outshot the Cardinals 17-3 and had nine penalty corners.
Junior goalie Jessica Moore (Culpeper/Bowie, Md.) made 11 saves, including some spectacular dives.
The Bobcats, now 9-5, return to action Wednesday, October 16 at Slippery Rock University at 4:00p.m.
