— Frostburg State could not hold onto its second half lead and lost 3-2 to host Christopher Newport in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats (1-5) scored consecutive goals in the first half to take a 2-1 lead at the half. Junior Heidi Zook (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley) started the scoring off an assist from junior Tawni Buck (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) in the 20th minute. The second goal was then scored by Buck who deflected the ball off a penalty corner from Zook just over five minutes later to give FSU its halftime lead.
The Captains (4-1) Megan McCreedy and Ashley Roberson then scored goals less than two minutes apart in the final five minutes to give the Captains the victory.
Junior goalie Kristin Cousin (Edgewater, Md./South River) stopped 17 shots overall including two penalty strokes in the first half.
CNU out shot the Bobcats 25-15.
Frostburg State returns to action Sunday when it travels to Virginia Wesleyan at 11:00 a.m.
