FROSTBURG, MD —
Senior Kim Faust(Upper Dublin/Ft.Washington, Pa.)
scored twice and had an assist to lead Frostburg State to a 4-1 win over visiting Goucher Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Heidi Zook (Twin Valley/Elverson, Pa.) also scored twice as the Bobcats won their fourth straight match.
First to light-up the scoreboard was Zook, who rallied through a pack of defenders and found the net at 32:49 in the first half.
Just over five minutes later, at 27:34, Zook found the net again, muscling a shot in after a penalty corner that set up the assist from senior Kim Faust(Upper Dublin/Ft.Washington, Pa.).
The Gophers could not get possession of the ball and FSU kept charging up the field, keeping the ball near its opponents goal.
With 5:28 left in the half, Faust coasted to within scoring range and belted one in, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.
The second half picked up about where the first left off with FSU possessing the ball for the majority of the minutes. At the 26-minute mark, Faust was awarded a penalty shot after the ball was trapped under the Gopher goalie. Faust drilled it and scored her second goal of the day.
Now down 4-0, the Gophers felt some urgency and managed to get possession. At 7:18, junior Jess Pane scored off an assist from senior Jen McCulley, preventing the Bobcat shutout.
FSU, which improved to 8-4 overall, dominated with 24 shots and 20 penalty corners.
The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday, October 8th when they host Juniata at 4:00 p.m.
