NEWPORT NEWS, VA —
Frostburg State University has been picked to finish third in the Atlantic Central Football Conference according to a vote taken by the league’s six head coaches.
Conference newcomer SUNY Brockport was the unanimous selection to claim the 2004 title. The Golden Eagles earned all five first-place votes (coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team). Brockport has advanced to the NCAA playoffs each of the last five years.
Salisbury University, which received the other first-place vote, edged two-time defending conference champion Frostburg State for second place.
Wesley College was picked fourth, newcomer Buffalo State College was fifth and The Apprentice School was sixth.
The 2004 ACFC season opens this weekend with Apprentice, Buffalo State, Salisbury, SUNY Brockport and Wesley all in action. Frostburg State opens its season September 11 at home against Apprentice.
