NEWPORT NEWS, Va. —
The Frostburg State football team had 14 players named to the All-Atlantic Central Football Conference teams, released Thursday. Redshirt junior tight end Fred Howze (Upper Marlboro, Md./FTH Catholic)
and senior linebacker Lathon Romaine (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock)
led the way by being the only Bobcats named to the all-conference first team.
Howze, who was a second-team honoree last season, earned first-team honors after hauling in 22 passes for 334 yards and one touchdown. He closed out the 2006 campaign by catching at least one pass in 21-straight games.
Romaine makes his second-straight appearance on the all-conference team. This fall he recorded 50 tackles, 26 solo and 24 assisted, including eight tackles for loss. He also led FSU and finished tied for fifth in the ACFC with five pass breakups.
Ten Frostburg State players were also honored with second-team selections; five on offense, four on defense and one special teams.
Senior right tackle Pete Wilson (Street, Md./North Harford) and junior running back Shanorm Young (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic) repeat as second-team selections.
Wilson was a four-year starter for the Bobcats, starting a total of 39 games. Young finished fourth in the league and first on the team with 632 yards on the ground including two scores.
Senior T.J. Changuris (Frederick, Md./Seneca Valley), Dave Kenderdine (Westlawn, Pa./Wilson) and Jack Hopkins (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) rounded out the first-team offense for FSU. Changuris finished second on the team with 22 catches for 238 yards and one touchdown. He ended his career by catching at least one pass in 19-consecutive games.
Hopkins and Kenderdine helped anchor the Bobcat offensive line this season. Hopkins was a team captain for the last two years and started the final 22 games for FSU at center. Kenderdine started the final 20 games as a Bobcat at left guard.
A pair of defensive backs highlight the second-team defense for the Bobcats; senior Vincent Thomas (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) and junior Najier Frazer (Bowie, Md./Duval).
Thomas, who was a honorable mention pick last fall, finished second on the team with four pass breakups and fourth on the team with 51 tackles. Frazer was fifth in the ACFC with 6.6 tackles per contest including 53 total stops on the year.
Junior defensive end Gabe Ellis (Laurel, Del./Delmar) earned second-team honors after finishing second in the league with 7.1 tackles per game, third with 64 total tackles and tied for fourth with five sacks.
Classmate Brendan Clancy (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) was the fourth Bobcat named to the second-team defense after finishing sixth in the conference with 6.2 tackles per game, making 56 total stops.
Freshman punter Nicholas Payne (Frostburg, Md./Nothern Garrett) was named to the second-team special teams unit after leading the ACFC with a 36.4 yards per punt average. He also finished second in the conference in total punting yards(1,675).
All-ACFC Honorable Mention honors went to FSU seniors Ryan Cutsail (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and Justin Bressler (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown).
Cutsail earned his second-straight honorable mention honor and fourth All-ACFC selection during his career as a Bobcat. This season he made 43 tackles, 13 solo and 43 assisted, with seven tackles for loss and three sacks. Bressler, who was a second-team honoree last year, made 23 tackles, 5.5 for loss, with three sacks and two blocked kicks.
The Bobcats finish the year 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the ACFC.
