Frostburg State is among the leaders in this week’s Division III national football statistics.
Out of 228 schools, the Bobcats rank 50th in total defense (277.0 yards per game) and 51st in rushing defense (92.0 yard per game).
Individually, senior defensive end Kevin Culbert (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) is second in the country with 5.0 tackles for loss per game and fifth with 2.0 sacks per contest.
His six tackles for loss in the season-opener against Apprentice September 10 is tied for first among the single-game high marks this season.
Freshman Mark Sedlock (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) is tied for 26th with 1.0 field goals made per game, while junior linebacker Dan Nice (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) is tied for 30th with 2.3 tackles for loss per game.
Culbert, junior linebacker Mike Davis (Chesapeake City, Md./Bohemia Manor) and junior cornerback Vincent Thomas (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) are tied for 34th in the country with 0.5 forced fumbles per game. Each has one forced fumble over two games this season.
The Bobcats (1-1, 0-1 ACFC) return to action this Saturday when they visit SUNY-Brockport (1-2, 1-1 ACFC) in a key conference contest starting at 1 pm.
