Foundations Sponsor Seminar on Planning for Philanthropy

Four local charitable foundations – the Allegany College of Maryland Foundation, the Community Trust Foundation, the Frostburg State University Foundation and the Western Maryland Health System Foundation – have joined forces to offer an advanced development opportunity for professionals involved with all/any aspects of financial and estate planning.

“Advanced Charitable Planning Techniques,” which will be held at the Cumberland Country Club on Thursday, Sept. 23, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., offers an in-depth overview of philanthropic giving to accountants, attorneys, trust officers, financial advisors and estate planners. The course will look at a number of advanced planning strategies for charitable giving, including charitable gift annuities, life insurance, Charitable Remainder Trusts and Charitable Lead Trusts, retirement plan gifts, donor advised funds and pooled income funds. Community and private foundations will also be discussed.

The speaker is Arthur J. Werner, J.D., M.S. (Taxation), whose areas of expertise include business, tax, financial and estate planning. In addition, he is an adjunct professor of taxation in the Master of Science in Taxation program at Philadelphia University. He has presented more than 1,500 seminars to estate, financial and tax planning professionals over the past 15 years.

This course has been submitted for acceptance by CFP (Certified Financial Planner) Board of Standards Inc. for continuing education credit. Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits will be available through the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and Contact Hour Certificates will be offered through the Allegany College of Maryland Center for Continuing Education. -end-
