Free Performances Showcase Musical Talent at FSU

The Division of Performing Arts-Music at Frostburg State University will present a variety of musical performances throughout the week of May 7 through May 13. All concerts are free and open to the public.

The FSU Clarinet Studio will perform a special recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in the Performing Arts Center’s Pealer Recital Hall. Mark Gallagher will direct the concert, with Betty Jane Phillips on piano. The performance will include selections by Witold Lutoslawski, Carl Maria von Weber, Bernard Crusell, Georg Phillip Telemann, Louis Cahuzac and Paul Jeanjean.

Sopranos Alexandra Cozart and Kyrsta Deering will give a joint junior recital at 8 p.m. Friday, May 11, in the PAC Pealer Recital Hall. Cozart, who is studying vocal performance, music management and Spanish at FSU, will perform selections by Henry Purcell, Franz Schubert, Joaquin Rodrigo, Sir Arthur Sullivan, Giacomo Puccini and Johann Strauss. Deering, who is majoring in music education, will enchant audiences with selections by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Alessandro Scarlatti, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Robert Schumann, Robert Schubert, Emile Paladilhe, Reynaldo Hahn, Claude Debussy, among many other composers.

The FSU Flute Ensemble, featuring Kristin Bacchiocchi-Stewart, will perform at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 13, at the Osborne Newman Center, 130 S. Broadway St. The Flute Ensemble will perform a variety of selections from noted composers such as Vivaldi, Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn and Samuel Adler.

Then at 3 p.m. Sunday, the FSU Wind Ensemble, directed by William Robinson, will perform at the PAC Pealer Recital Hall. The Wind Ensemble will treat audiences to a variety of works by composers such as Camille Saint-Saëns, Morton Gould, William Schumann, Edward Victor Cupero and Norman Dello Joio.
