Frostburg Community Dialogue Series Continues
01/22/2013

Frostburg State University continues its “Sustaining Campus and Community” dialogue series this spring with dialogue sessions in Frostburg on Wednesday, Feb. 20, and Tuesday, March 26, both at 5:30 p.m. in the Lyric Theater, 20 E. Main St., and a celebration picnic on Saturday, May 4, from noon to 3 p.m. at City Place on Water Street.

These community meetings, initiated last spring, convene students, year-round residents, local officials and University leaders to discuss a variety of issues and create new opportunities for collaborative problem-solving and coalition-building. Everyone with an interest in the Frostburg community is invited to participate in any part of this process.

The project, funded in large part by Maryland Judiciary’s Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO), focuses on community-based action plans to support improved campus-community communication and a non-violent culture in Frostburg. This fall, a planning retreat, training sessions and two dialogues were held at FSU and in downtown Frostburg.

Nationally known conflict resolution scholar-practitioners Dr. Frank Dukes, lecturer and director of the Institute for Environmental Negotiation at the University of Virginia, and Dr. Marvin Johnson, founder and executive director of the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution, will continue to offer their expertise for these events.

Details and documentary segments capturing the “Sustaining Campus and Community” efforts can be seen at the dialogue series website at www.frostburg.edu/dept/cmst/dialogue-series.

Anyone interested in being part of this community-building effort should contact project manager Dr. Elesha L. Ruminski at elruminski@frostburg.edu or 301-687-4480. Ruminski is the chair of the Department of Communication Studies and coordinator of Leadership Studies at FSU, as well as the president of the Mountainside Community Mediation Center, a local partner in this dialogue series that will provide additional support.

FSU is committed to making all of its programs, services and activities accessible to persons with disabilities. To request accommodations through the ADA Compliance Office, call 301-687-4102 or use a Voice Relay Operator at 1-800-735-2258. -end-
