Frostburg State University College of Business Earns Continuing AACSB Accreditation

Frostburg State University’s College of Business has received continuing accreditation from AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), an achievement shared by only about 5 percent of the world’s business schools. The College recently completed a demanding five-year review process.

“AACSB accreditation for any business school is the pre-eminent, globally recognized gold standard. It is considered the ultimate certification of the quality of an institution’s academic offerings,” said Dr. Ahmad Tootoonchi, interim provost. “We are inspired and proud to be in the company of some of the finest educational institutions worldwide.”

The College of Business has maintained its AACSB accreditation since its initial accreditation in 2006. AACSB’s accreditation continuation process is based on the goal of continuous institutional improvement. Rather than employing a set standard, AACSB regularly reviews each institution’s progress toward strategic improvement goals.

“I applaud the faculty and staff of our College of Business,” said Dr. Thomas Bowling, interim president of FSU. “The continuing accreditation by AACSB is an important validation of their efforts to continually improve their academic programs and promote student success. I am particularly pleased that, among FSU’s many unique qualities, the peer reviewers commended our faculty engagement, our Global Experiential Learning Program and the dedication of our College of Business Advisory Board members.”

The College of Business was reviewed by a Peer Review Team comprised of business deans from other AACSB-accredited institutions in October 2015.

The visiting team praised the College of Business’ alumni leaders, including CEOs and vice presidents of businesses and those holding high-level positions in the federal government. The reviewers also highlighted the College of Business’ academic partnerships with several international institutions and its growing internship program, which partners FSU students with industry-leading businesses and local, state and national government agencies. Reviewers pointed as well to the College of Business’ support for student participation at national conferences and the engagement of FSU students in numerous campus organizations and national honor societies.

“This extension of accreditation by AACSB follows a rigorous one-and-a-half-day Continuous Improvement Review visit,” said Dr. Sudhir Singh, interim dean of the College of Business. “This milestone could not have been achieved without the unified dedication and unflinching commitment of the entire College of Business. They have worked tirelessly over the last five years to continuously improve every facet of our College’s academic culture.”

The College of Business’ AACSB accreditation remains valid through its next scheduled review in 2020-21. The College’s faculty and staff have already begun working to continue their momentum toward even further improvement.
