Frostburg State University Master’s in Recreation and Parks Management Ranks 10th Nationally as a GetEducated.com Best Buy

Frostburg State University’s online Master of Science in Recreation and Parks Management program has been ranked a “Best Buy” by GetEducated.com, the consumer guide to online colleges, in its independent review of online masters in the management and administration subject areas. FSU’s program ranked 10th among all competing options nationwide.

“Frostburg State University’s Master of Science in Recreation and Parks Management provides remarkable value to our students, and I’m proud that it is being recognized,” said FSU President Jonathan Gibralter. “FSU’s program, one of the first of its kind to go online, was designed to serve the specific needs of the working professionals in these fields. Its cohort model, which allows students to progress through the program with the same group of classmates, has provided them with remarkable networking opportunities and support from their nationwide connections.”

The online Master of Science in Recreation and Parks Management program is designed to provide professionals who have three years of combined administrative and supervisory experience with the skills and techniques required of upper-level managers in public, nonprofit and commercial agencies in the parks and recreation field. The 30-credit program can be completed in 2 1/2 years.

The GetEducated.com Management Best Buy ranking is based on a national survey of 69 regionally accredited colleges that offer 100 online master’s programs in management and administration. The rankings highlight the 44 most affordable online degrees in this field. To appear on a Get Educated Best Buy ranking, the online degree profiled must objectively cost less than the average of all the online degrees reviewed in the comprehensive national data set.

“Frostburg State is a laudable model for how public universities with superior leadership teams are combining the credibility of a traditional university experience with cutting edge technology to better serve America’s working professionals,” says Vicky Phillips, founder of GetEducated.com. “In a time when higher education costs have reached critical levels, FSU’s online learning programs offer a national model for how educational technology coupled with innovative fiscal practices can help solve the crisis of college affordability,” says Phillips.

The average cost of an online management and administration master’s, according to the survey, is $23,196. GetEducated.com estimates the cost of an FSU online Master of Science at $10,560 for Maryland residents and $13,470 for those from other states.

“Dr. Maureen Dougherty was the program coordinator who had the foresight ahead of the market to put FSU’s first totally online program online. Dr. Natalia Buta is the current coordinator of the program and is carrying on the tradition,” said Dr. Robert Kauffman, chair of the Department of Recreation and Parks Management.
