04/17/2003

FROSTBURG, MD — Frostburg State University will host the second annual FSU Volleyball School for two weeks this coming summer at the Harold J. Cordts Physical Education Center, for girls ages 10-18.

An individual skills camp will be held July 27 to July 31, and a team camp will follow August 3-7.

The FSU Volleyball School will be directed by Bobcat head volleyball coach Jeff Billington, who guided FSU to its fifth Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference in six years and an appearance in the Division III NCAA Tournament. The camp will also feature Nila Torbio Straka, former Georgetown University Head Coach; Jamie Petrick, head coach at Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Va.; and Sarah Deuel, assistant coach at Frostburg State.

The FSU Volleyball School will offer instruction in the fundamental mechanics of forearm passing, overhead set, over- and underhand serving, blocking, digging and spiking. Counselors will focus on team strategyg and tactics, including rotational defense, middle up defense and the different offensive formations (i.e. 5-1, 4-2, 6-2).

FSU's outstanding facilities will allow for up to nine courts in the Cordts P.E. Center, and campers will have access to the indoor swimming pool and rock climbing wall during evening free time.

Commuter and resident options are available. Resident campers will be housed in one of FSU's spacious residence halls (two to a room), and all campers will eat meals in Chesapeake Dining Hall featuring a wide selection of food.
