Local organizations have the opportunity to feed body and soul with pizza, music and good company through a special discount package offered by Frostburg State University and Papa Pinos Pizzeria as part of an upcoming appearance of Chamber Orchestra Kremlin at FSU.
The concert, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall at the Performing Arts Center, is part of the University's Cultural Events Series.
Guests responding to this offer will be treated to a trio of pizza, musical discussion and famous works performed by the world-renowned Orchestra for the bargain price of only $2.00 per person.
During its nine years of existence, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin has maintained a strong presence in the international music world, with an active touring schedule and 12 CDs to date. Music Director Misha Rachlevsky founded the Orchestra in response to an invitation from the Swiss recording company, Claves, to record discs of Russian music. Some have won prestigious awards, including Gramophone's Critic's Choice and the Diapason d'Or of Paris.
This 18-member string formation of dynamic young musicians has won rave reviews around the globe for its distinctively impassioned yet meticulous style. "The group is considered one of Moscow's best," says the Boston Globe. England's Gramophone describes the Orchestra as "an expert body under the baton of a keen stylist."
The evening's entertainment will begin at 5 p.m. with pizza at Papa Pinos on Main Street in Frostburg, followed at 6 p.m. by a special open rehearsal and behind-the-scenes meeting with the musicians. The capstone of the evening will be the 7:30 p.m. performance in the Performing Arts Center's Pealer Recital Hall.
Musical selections will include Mozart's Divertimento in D major, K. 136; Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony, Op. 100a (String quartet No. 8, arr. R. Barshai); J.S. Bach's Contrapunctus No. 1 from The Art of the Fugue; and Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings, Op. 48.
