Frostburg State University to Participate in National Library Week
03/28/2007

April 15 kicks off National Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries in schools, campuses, and communities nationwide. At Frostburg State University, the Lewis J. Ort Library will celebrate the week with a poetry reading by Susan Tichy, a professor of English at George Mason University and author of the book “Bone Pagoda.” Tichy’s presentation will be on the fourth floor of the library on Friday, April 20, at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

The library staff will host area librarians for a workshop by the University of Maryland librarians on disaster preparedness for information professionals. “At our library, people from campus and community can unite for meetings and programs, or do research with the assistance of a professional, search for a job or find homework help,” says Dr. David Gillespie, Library director. “Libraries transform their communities.”

The Lewis J. Ort library contributes to the Frostburg community by teaching information literacy, the ability to find and select appropriate information, evaluate it and effectively incorporate it in scholarship. The American Library Association invites people to “come together @ your library” during National Library Week. National Library Week was instituted in 1958 and is now observed all over the country every April.
