The Frostburg State University Department of Music presents its Winter Choral Concert on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 3 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Pealer Recital Hall.
The concert will feature the University Chorale and the Collegium Musicum under the direction of Dr. Karen Soderberg Sarnaker, conductor, and Dr. Susan Mills, guest conductor and music education specialist. Kimberly Andrews will be the accompanist.
The University Chorale performance includes "Veni, Creator Spiritus" by Anton Cajetan Adlgasser, and features Heather Helmstetter, soprano, Heather Foote, alto, and Michael Hale-Cooper, tenor; "Elohim Hashivenu" by Salamoni Rossi and Mozart's "Litaniae Lauretanae, KV 109." Works from other cultures include "Steal Away" (USA), arranged by Bob Chilcott, "Tunggare" by Stephen Leek (Australia) and "Natufurahi Siku Ya Leo" by Boniface Mganga (Kenya). Also included are three humorous works, "Of Crows and Clusters" by Norman Dello Joio, "The Owl and the Pussycat" arranged by Bob Chilcott and "Jabberwocky" by Sam Pottle.
The Collegium Musicum will perform four South African works under the direction of Dr. Mills. They include "N'kosi Sikelel'I Afrika, Somagwazam" (Xhosa ritual music), "Kenale Monna" (wedding song) and "Kwengena Thina Bo" (Zulu Song).
The concert is free and open to the public. Donations toward the Music Scholarship Fund will be graciously accepted.
