Frostburg State University will celebrate its past, present and future during Leadership and Homecoming Weekend 2010. Events are scheduled from Thursday, Nov. 4, to Sunday, Nov. 7, including the All-Campus Sing, tailgating, football and a chance to meet Washington Nationals manager and FSU alumnus Jim Riggleman.
The weekend activities begin early this year with the Delta Chi Lip Sync on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Auxiliary Gym of the Cordts PE Center.
The campus-wide Career Expo kicks off Friday’s events, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Office of Career Services invites alumni back to the University to share life experiences and discuss possible career choices with FSU students. The Bobcat Hall of Fame Ceremony and Dinner, will be at 6 p.m. in the Cordts PE Center Main Arena, preceded by a cocktail hour beginning at 5 p.m. in the Cordts Hall of Fame Hallway. The ceremony will honor 2010 Hall of Fame inductees Tim Feldman ’95, Dr. Bob Lewis, Kara Reed Nelson ’98/M’08, Shannon Rexrode ’00/’01 and Athletic Trainer Tony Zaloga. FSU Athletics will also commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the 1970-1971 Men's Basketball team and the mark they made in FSU history. The cost is $30 per person, $15 for children 12 and under.
Come join the fun at the All Campus Sing, sponsored by Sigma Alpha Iota, on Friday at 8 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. Check out the variety of dance, instrumental and vocal acts by FSU students in this much-anticipated talent show. General admission is $3 per person and $2 for anyone wearing the letters of a recognized Greek organization.
Continue the fun by catching up with friends at the Dance Party on Friday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Auxiliary Gym in the Cordts PE Center. The Dance Party is sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Black Student Alliance.
Saturday, Nov. 6, starts off with the Jim Anderson Memorial Baseball Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the Main Arena of Cordts PE Center. The cost is $20 per person, $10 for children 12 and under.
Also on Saturday is the Alumni Registration in the Performing Arts Center Lobby from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by to leave a note for a fellow graduate, get your picture taken, update your address and register for the Bobcat Crawl scheduled for that afternoon. There will also be face painting, balloon artists and caricatures for the kids.
At 10 a.m. there will be a Track and Cross Country Alumni Brunch in the Leake Room in Cordts PE Center. The brunch costs $15 per person, $8 for children 12 and under.
The Children’s Literature Centre will have an open house at 10 a.m. in Framptom Hall, room 206. Then, at 11:30 a.m., meet Washington Nationals Manager and FSU alumnus Jim Riggleman, class of ’74, during a Q & A session in Compton Science Center Room 226. Both events are free and open to the public.
Also at 10 a.m. is the Friends of Music Steering Committee Meeting at the St. John’s Episcopal Church, 52 Broadway, Frostburg. Get ready for the football game Bobcat-style with a tailgating party from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Free parking spaces will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Then cheer on the Bobcats and enjoy time with friends and alumni during the Bobcat vs. The Apprentice School football game in Bobcat Stadium. The game starts at 1 p.m. and admission is free.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the Football Reunion in the tent in Bobcat Stadium. The reunion is $15 per person, $8 for children 12 and under.
The Roper Gallery in the FSU Fine Arts Building will feature a Clay 20 Exhibition. The exhibit will include ceramic works from international, national and regional artists who have been connected to FSU’s Ceramics Program over the last 20 years. The exhibit is open Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. both days, and is free and open to the public.
The Black Student Alliance will sponsor a Making Connections and Networking Workshop and Reception on Saturday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Leake Room of the Cordts PE Center.
The Bobcat Crawl begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Advance registration is required from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center lobby. Experience Frostburg’s Main Street – visit businesses, receive a discount and be entered in a prize drawing.
The always popular National Pan-Hellenic Council Step Show will be held in the Cordts PE Center Main Arena on Saturday at 8 p.m. The cost is $5 for students, $10 for non-students and alumni.
Alumni are also welcome to come to the Alumni Association Board of Directors meeting on Sunday, Nov. 7, beginning at 9 a.m. in the PE Center Leake Room, and to join the SGA for its Big Event at noon, cleaning up the streets of Frostburg.
