Homecoming season is here and Frostburg State University will celebrate from Thursday, Oct. 18, to Sunday, Oct. 21. Past, present and future students are encouraged to participate in the events during homecoming weekend. Activities will include a pep rally, comedy show, tailgating, football and the Bobcat athletic reunion.
The weekend will begin with the Growl, the annual pep rally where the 2012 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Arena of the Cordts Physical Education Center.
On Friday, the events will begin at 9 a.m. with a campuswide career expo. At 12:30 p.m., there will be a Career Expo luncheon held at the Lane University Center Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall. The Bobcat Hall of Fame cocktail hour, induction ceremony and dinner will begin at 5 p.m. in the Cordts Main Arena. There will be a $30 charge for adults and a $15 charge for children under 12. The RSVP deadline for both events is Friday, Oct. 5. Later, the Black Student Alliance invites everyone to Lane Manicur Hall at 7:30 p.m. to enjoy a comedy show. The cost of this event is $7 for students and $12 for visitors. There will also be an All Campus Sing at 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Pealer Recital Hall. This event costs $3, or $2 for students wearing letters from recognized Greek organizations.
Saturday begins at 8:30 a.m. with the Jim Anderson Memorial Baseball Breakfast in Lane Manicur Hall. The charge for this event is $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12. The RSVP date for the event is Friday, Oct. 5. Following that at 9 a.m. will be the Captain James A. Graham Memorial Project Kick-Off on the library deck. Alumni will be able to update any contact information at the Welcome Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Bobcat Stadium. At 10 a.m. there will be a Friends of Music Steering Committee Meeting and Brunch at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 52 Broadway, Frostburg.
The campus tour will begin at 11 a.m. in Lane’s upper lobby. The President’s Leadership Circle Reunion will also begin at 11 a.m. in the Lane South Addition. Those interested must RSVP by Friday, Oct. 5.
At 11 a.m. FSU’s Volleyball team will take on the Salisbury Seagulls in the Cordts Main Arena. Afterward, come support the FSU Football team with a tailgating party from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Free parking spaces will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. At noon, the Black Student Alliance will host a “Mentoring and Networking” workshop in the Lane Atkinson Room (232). Cheer on the Bobcats and enjoy time with family, friends and alumni during the football game in Bobcat Stadium, where the Bobcats take on the Buffalo Bengals. The game starts at 1 p.m. and admission is free. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the Bobcat Athletic Reunion on the Lewis J. Ort Library’s deck. The cost for the reunion is $20 per person and $10 for children 12 and younger; an RSVP by Oct. 5 is required to attend.
If football isn’t your thing, bring the family to enjoy a movie and popcorn at 1 p.m. in room 111 of the Lane Center. Immediately following the football game at 4 p.m. will be an Impromptu Alumni Step Show presented by FSU’s National Pan-Hellenic Council. At 5 p.m., FSU’s Men’s Soccer team takes on the Marymount Saints in Bobcat Stadium.
The evening activities begin at 7:30 p.m. with a dance concert featuring FSU students in the Performing Arts Center Drama Theatre. Admission for this event is $6 for students and $12 for guests. At 8 p.m. in Lane Manicur Hall, join alumni and friends at a dance party featuring Queen City Funk and Soul. There is a $10 cover charge for this event. The evening festivities will continue with Club Connections, co-sponsored by Frostburg Connections, at the Lyric Theatre on Main Street from 10 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. The night wraps up with a mixer hosted by the Black Student Alliance and Student Government Association from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Cordts Main Arena. The cost is $10 per student and $15 for non-students.
On Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Lane Atkinson Room (232), there will be an Alumni Association board of directors meeting. The Men’s Alumni Basketball Game will begin at 11 a.m. There will be a worship service at 11:30 a.m. at Cook Chapel and a light lunch will follow. The Bobcat Field Hockey team will play against the Salisbury Seagulls at noon in the Bobcat Stadium. Also at noon, the Student Government Association will hold its Big Event; everyone is invited to help clean up the streets of Frostburg.
