FSU Children’s Literature Centre Hosts Author/Illustrator
09/25/2002

The Children’s Literature Centre at Frostburg State University will welcome Judith Bryon Schachner on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at City Place, 14 South Water Street, Frostburg. The event is free and open to the public.

Schachner is the illustrator of several children's books including “I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie” and “Yo Vikings!”

Growing up in Waltham, Mass., Schachner watched and listened to her older brothers draw and make up funny stories. She graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and worked as a greeting card illustrator for Hallmark. She was inspired to illustrate children’s books after reading them to her daughters.

“I live in a constant state of third grade bliss – making up stories and drawing pictures,” she says.

In 1995, Schachner wrote and illustrated her first book, “Willy and May.” Her other books include “The Grannyman” and “How the Cat Swallowed Thunder.”

In addition to the presentation, interested persons can still purchase raffle tickets for the 20th Anniversary Children’s Literature Centre’s commemorative quilt.
