FSU, City of Frostburg Will Present Daylong Activities with “Storybook Holiday”
11/26/2007

The city of Frostburg will again be transformed into a holiday winter wonderland, as local organizations come together to present “Frostburg’s Storybook Holiday,” a daylong event of seasonal activities on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The opening celebration, sponsored in part by the Frostburg State University Children’s Literature Centre and Historic Frostburg, will occur at Failinger’s Historic Hotel Gunter on Main Street, where guests can enjoy Breakfast with the Elves from 8 to 10 a.m., followed by a 1K Jingle Run and Holiday Parade.

Restaurants will feature special holiday offerings, and showcase windows will display decorations created by local school children who were inspired by children’s holiday stories.

Storybook readings will take place at various locations on Main Street, with special guest appearances from Clifford the Big Red Dog, The Dumb Bunnies, Franklin, Miss Spider and Geronimo Stilton. All patrons will receive a commemorative bookmark that, when filled with five different stickers from participating retailers, can be redeemed for a special treat.

Other notable events that day are the Elf Olympics; Letters to Santa, where children can send their personal letters to Santa; and free horse-drawn carriage rides. From 11:15 a.m. to 4 p.m., photo opportunities with elves will be available for $2, and children can join a Secret Elves’ Workshop for $1. The celebration continues into the evening with the Lighting of the City Tree and the Festival of Trees from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The House and Garden Club of Frostburg will provide the community with hot chocolate and cookies prior to the tree lighting. The evening will conclude with “Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol” at the Palace Theatre. Tickets are $5.

Parking will be free throughout the day. Breakfast with the Elves tickets are available at Gunter Hotel on Nov. 1. For more information, contact the Frostburg First Office at (301) 689-6900 or the FSU Children’s Literature Centre at (301) 687-4254.
