FSU Department of Music Presents “The Magic Flute”
05/01/2009

Frostburg State University Department of Music’s Opera Workshop presents Mozart's bewitching singspiel, “The Magic Flute,” on Thursday, May 7,and Friday, May 8, at 8 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center.

“The Magic Flute” has been a favorite with opera audiences since its first performance, with much of the credit going to the adorable characters Papageno and Papagena.

FSU’s modern re-telling of the traditional story will help clarify some of the themes that sometimes get lost in more traditional fairy-tale account of the story.

“The Magic Flute” is a story about people on life's journey who must find their path and place in life, and how their choices help them achieve their goals, be they pure or malicious.

Dr. Jonathan Hodel, director of the Opera Workshop, serves as conductor with Betty Jane Phillips helping lead the student and faculty orchestra. The production will feature the diverse talents of a 35-member cast, including Cumberland natives Olivia Hartman and Danny Durr and audience favorites Lane Conklin, Nicole Sirois, Tony Walters and Alexandra Cozart.

Tickets for the performances will be available at the door, $5 for adults and $3 for students.
