FSU, Frostburg Parks & Rec Offer Improv Class at City Place
04/03/2008

Frostburg State University and the City of Frostburg Department of Parks and Recreation will be offering an improv class on Fridays, April 18 to May 9, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at City Place, 14 S. Water St., Frostburg. The class is an introductory course into improvisation and is open to anyone age 16 and older.

Students will perform several times every class and receive feedback and adjustments in a fun, positive, supportive environment. Every class begins with basic “circle games.” Exercises will be explained by the instructor and everyone will get a chance to perform at least once per exercise. Generally three to five exercises are conducted in the course of the class.

The instructor will be J.W. Myers, the founder of Idiot Central, an improvisation school in Los Angeles. He is a former instructor at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles and the Dee Wallace Stone Acting School. Myers has directed and performed with improv groups at The Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory and The Ice House.

Improvisation is a creative outlet that will improve public speaking skills, overall social skills, performance skills and confidence.

A minimum of eight participants are needed for this class. Payment must be made no later than one week prior to the start of this session.
