FREDERICK, Md. —
Frostburg State University Hall of Famer Maynard Hurd was inducted into the Frederick County YMCA Sports Hall of Fame on February 4th. Hurd, a native of Frederick County, was honored at the 30th Annual Alvin G. Quinn Memorial Banquet at the American Legion.
Hurd, a 1998 FSU inductee, was a five-time NCAA Division III National Champion. He captured individual titles in the 55-meter hurdles in 1985-87 and in the outdoor 110-meter hurdles in 1985 and 1986. Each of his times in the 1985,’86 and ’87 55-meter hurdles set a new outdoor national meet record, twice breaking his own record from the previous year.
He was also a five-time All-American; three times in the 55-meter hurdles and twice in the 110-meter hurdles. He also has the distinction of being a member of all three F.S.U. NCAA Division III National Championship Teams: the 1986 indoor team, and the 1986 & 1987 outdoor teams.
Hurd currently holds FSU records in the 55-meter hurdles (7.36), 110-meter hurdles (14.01) and 4x200-meter relay (1:25.9).
During his career at Frederick High School, Hurd captured eight county and four regional championships in outdoor track including two indoor hurdle state championships.
