FSU Homecoming Features All-American Parade
10/03/2000

An All-American Parade will make its way down Frostburg's Main Street for Frostburg State University's All-American Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 7, starting at 10:30 a.m.

Parade Marshal will be William Graves, Classes of '65 and '71, one of three FSU Alumni Achievement Award winners.

Farrady Post 24 American Legion will add to the All-American feel of the parade by lining Main Street with American Flags.

Some 50 units are expected to participate, 17 from the University and 33 from the community, including representatives from all three Frostburg elementary schools.

Royalty present will include Miss Teen Cumberland Rachel Ellsworth, Miss Chili Pepper Stephanie Durst, Miss Four Points Lindsey Farris and Miss Howard County Courtney Thomas, as well as the FSU Homecoming Court, from which the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at that afternoon's football game halftime.

Other features of the parade include the FSU Marching Band - directed by Alumni Achievement Award winner Noel Kunkle -- the Beall High Band, Belles and cheerleaders, the Frostburg Rangers soccer teams, the Frostburg United Methodist Bridge Program and the Bobcat alumni 1970 football team, one of the best ever. Firefighting units will be represented from Frostburg, Midland, Shaft, Eastern Garrett, Grantsville, Good Will, Cresaptown, Clarysville and Ellerslie.

Just as Don McLean, Homecoming's featured performer, drove his Chevy to the Levy in "American Pie," Chevys provided by Billy Bender Chevrolet will carry dignitaries in the parade. They include Frostburg Mayor John Bambacus, FSU President Catherine Gira and FSU Provost Christine Grontkowski.
